The history of the Faculty of Foreign Languages as an independent unit began in 1955, and since then it has remained the only language faculty in Kaluga region with unique experience in training highly qualified specialists in foreign languages. Today the faculty continues its glorious traditions, realizing promising areas of training that meet the needs of the time.

The educational process is organized in accordance with the standards of continuous three-step higher education: bachelor's degree - master's degree - postgraduate study. That meets the students’ needs in building their own educational trace in the field of foreign languages. From the junior level, students of the faculty are taking their first steps in scientific work - they participate in university and regional conferences in order to try taking part at the all-Russian level, for example, to participate in the leading youth scientific forum of Russia - “Lomonosov” at Moscow State University. The Faculty in every way helps to increase the competitiveness of students outside the walls of the University through successful participation in language competitions, translation contests, and creative projects of major universities in Russia.

Our students are also interested in working as volunteer interpreters at various events with international participation: in 2017 it is the Confederations Cup and the World Festival of the Youth and Students in Sochi, in 2018 it is the World Cup in football.

The University is actively working to establish international cooperation with the purpose of student exchange between the faculty and European countries: for example, in 2018 the relationships with the universities of the Montpellier metropolitan area were established.

In order to facilitate the employment of graduates, the faculty maintains relations with employers - both educational institutions and representative offices of foreign companies. Graduates of the faculty, having received a prestigious profession, certainly occupy a worthy position in life, working in Kaluga and neighboring regions, Moscow region and abroad. Every year, the number of our bachelor graduates, who choose to continue their studies not only at universities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also in master courses in Germany, France, and the PRC increases as part of grants with partial and full tuition of receiving universities.
